Game Dev Update: Alynthia Has A Co-Op Mode!

Alynthia is shaping up to be a fantastic game (we think so), so of course once we realized this, the first thing we decided to do was change it.

We were feeling pretty confident about Alynthia. We had finally gotten to a place in development where we had stopped making significant changes. Since the base game was at a stable point, we had an idea. What if we took what we loved about competitive Alynthia and created a cooperative mode? We’ve been working hard on this, and we’ve designed a co-op mode that we think adds three new awesome elements to the game:

More Bang for Your Buck

Another mode of Alynthia means that you’re essentially getting two games in one! And what’s more, we managed to do it without requiring any additional components! Unlike many games with additional modes that require an expansion. It also keeps the core of the game that we love while incorporating a unique twist that adds depth and replayability.

Eliminating “Take That”

Some players love playing a cutthroat game, and Alynthia can provide that if players focus on attacking each other. But we’ve worked hard to remove arbitrary ‘take that’ elements from the game in favor of strategy-first, luck-second mechanics. However, some players want to work together and feel bad when games have any ‘take that’ element. Alynthia’s co-op mode allows players to choose on any given day what style of player they want to be.

Including Solo Play

Speaking of different player styles, sometimes there just aren’t enough players around to scratch that gaming itch. We were so excited when we realized that by adding a co-op mode to Alynthia, we had also added a solo mode! The core mechanics of Alynthia’s co-op mode can scale from 1-4 players, so it allows you to enjoy Alynthia no matter how many people around – even when there isn’t anyone who understands that it’s always time for a board game.

Sound Interesting?

We think adding a co-op mode to Alynthia will make the game even better. What do you think?
